Airbus A380 Delivered to Singapore Airlines 15.10.2007

Singapore Airlines has taken delivery of the first Airbus A380 (15.10.2007), the largest passenger jet in the world.

The massive double-decker aircraft is capable of carrying up to 471 passengers across economy, business class and first class, with the top deck home to the premium cabins and 399 economy seats spread across both levels.

Travellers flying in the aircraft's first class cabin - otherwise known as Singapore Airlines Suites - each get a personal space behind sliding doors, with each seat measuring almost a metre wide.

Singapore Airlines' business class offering provides the largest seat of its cabin class in the world, measuring some 34 inches wide.

Further improvements have also been made to the economy class cabin, all of the menus and the carrier's award-winning inflight entertainment system as part of the arrival of the new aircraft.

Stephen Forshaw of Singapore Airlines told BBC Radio 5 Live's Wake Up To Money programme that the new plane is set to be a "game changer" within the air travel sector.

"The work that's gone into making this aircraft ready to enter service quickly has really been a mammoth effort by Airbus, ourselves, Rolls-Royce and many other vendors who've brought the aircraft to completion today," he added.

Taking place on October 25th, the first flight using the new aircraft will fly from Singapore to Sydney.

The first delivery of A380 finally reached it's new home. It reached Singapore at 6.40pm delayed 10 mins.
It landed on Singapore Changi Airport terminal 3, Terminal 3 actually was to be opened on Jan 2008 but it opened today just to welcome the first A380.
The first A380 now belongs to Singapore airlines.

It sprayed water on A380 as a welcome. the wipers is very cute .

A380 Airbus Crosswind Landing Flight Test

Icelandic TV station video (language is Icelandic) during Airbus A380 crosswind landing certification tests in Keflavik with 40 to 50 knot crosswinds. Technique is to fly crabbed down to flare height then "kick" (gently) the rudder to align the nose. Some crab at touchdown is acceptable and will be cancelled as the main gear also align the bird with the runway. Sounds easy dosn't it? Notice the flight control laws only allow the lower rudder until the aircraft is on the ground, then both upper and lower rudders are controlled by the autopilot during AutoLand operations or by the rudder pedals. This logic helps prevent unwanted roll from the upper rudder due to its placement being so far away from the longitudinal axis of the aircraft.

Trent 900 is a derivative of the Trent 800. Trent 900 core is a scaled version of the Trent 500, but incorporates the swept fan technology of the stillborn Trent 8104.

GP7000 has roots from the GE90 and PW4000. The GP7200 has a GE90-derived core and PW4090-derived fan and low-pressure turbo-machinery.
